A knowledge based system for valuing variations in civil engineering works: a user centred approach

There has been much evidence that valuing variations in construction projects can lead to conflicts and disputes leading to loss of time, efficiency, and productivity. One of the reasons for these conflicts and disputes concerns the subjectivity of the project stakeholders involved in the process. One way to minimise this is to capture and collate the knowledge and perceptions of the different parties involved in order to develop a robust mechanism for valuing variations. Focusing on the development of such a mechanism, the development of a Knowledge Based System (KBS) for valuing variations in civil engineering work is described. Evaluation of the KBS involved demonstration to practitioners in the construction industry to support the contents of the knowledge base and perceived usability and acceptance of the system. Results support the novelty, contents, usability, and acceptance of the system, and also identify further potential developments of the KBS

Transaction Cost of Offsite Construction (OSC): A New Zealand Study

Offsite construction (OSC) has been put forward as a solution to many prevailing challenges facing the construction industry, including but not limited to low productivity, housing shortage, lack of innovation, and poor-quality outputs. The uptake of OSC is relatively slow in the New Zealand construction industry. With only 10% of all the new builds using the OSC approach, it is evident that the potential of this construction approach is under-utilised. Many barriers have been identified as responsible for low uptake, including cost-related barriers. This study investigates the transaction cost of OSC, which is an extra cost to the project development cost and is generally overlooked in the project planning and development stage. This study aims to identify the factors that contribute to the transaction cost of OSC in New Zealand, alongside investigating the impact of transaction cost on overall project delivery and factors that can minimise the transaction cost. A questionnaire survey was conducted involving OSC practitioners in New Zealand. It was noted that consultation with building consent authority, the complexity of interface design, limited capacity of offsite manufacturers, and highly skilled workforce requirements contribute to transition cost during concept design, technical design and procurement, manufacturing, and on-site assembly stages. Consequently, disputes between stakeholders, uncertainty, an overall increase in project cost, and reluctance to use OSC may occur. It is noted that the use of innovation like automation, building information modeling, design for manufacturing and assembly, and consenting process to suit OSC holds the potential to reduce the transaction cost.fals

Pengaruh Bauran Promosi Terhadap Minat Beli Konsumen (Studi Kasus Pada PT. Capella Dinamik Nusantara Ujungbatu)

This research have done in PT. Capella Dinamik Nusantara Ujungbatu, and the purpose of this research is to know the influence promotion mixed towards buying interest customers of PT. Capella Dinamik Nusantara Ujungbatu. Promotion mixed as independent variable (X) while the customers buying interest as dependent variable (Y).The problem of this research is decline realization sales of PT. Capella Dinamik Nusantara Ujungbatu then target unappropriate with realization sales. There has been seen from realization sales percentage which is fluctuated or up and down the purchase of motor cycle for last 5 years. Sample of this research is taken about 96 slovin formula. The data has been obtained from questionnaire and process next to making a test with statistic by SPSS program. The result of the calculation is the promotion mixed has positive effect about 72,5 % towards customers buying interest in PT. This research was done in Hotel Ratu Mayang Garden Pekanbaru, the purpose of this research is to know the influence of promotion mixed towards customers interest buying (case study the room service sales of Hotel Ratu Mayang Garden Pekanbaru). The promotion mixed as independent variable (X) while customers interest buying (Y).The problem of this research is level of room service sales of Hotel Ratu Mayang Garden couldn\u27t reach the target, moreover seems decreasing every year. It has been seen from the realization percentage of room service sales of hotel level in last 4 years. This sample has taken about 100 respondent of population which is calculating using slovin formula. The data was getting from questionnaire and process next to test with statistic by SPSS program.The result shown that promotion mixed has positive effect about 63% and significant towards customers interest buying of the room service sales of Hotel Ratu Mayang Garden Pekanbaru

Pengaruh Investasi dan Ekspor terhadap Penyerapan Tenaga Kerja melalui Pertumbuhan Ekonomi

Investasi dan peningkatan ekspor merupakan strategi yang dapat dilakukan oleh pemerintah untuk mempercepat pertumbuhan ekonomi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh investasi dan ekspor terhadap penyerapan tenaga kerja melalui pertumbuhan ekonomi. Penelitian ini menggunakan data sekunder, tahun 1995-2013 dan diuji dengan teknik analisis jalur. Hasil penelitian menyatakan investasi berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap penyerapan tenaga kerja melalui pertumbuhan ekonomi dan ekspor berpengaruh tidak signifikan terhadap penyerapan tenaga kerja melalui pertumbuhan ekonomi. Peningkatkan penyerapan tenaga kerja dilakukan dengan meningkatkan investasi pada industri padat karya dan meningkatkan pertumbuhan ekonomi dengan bahan baku ekspor yang berasal dari daerah sendiri
